How to Name your Business’ Podcast

Naming your podcast may seem like a small detail when compared to the intimidating task of recording and creating your own show. But choosing the right name can have a serious impact.

Here are some tips on how to name your business’ podcast.

Consider Brand Awareness

Many businesses choose to create a podcast in order to increase brand awareness. This is something to keep in mind when naming your podcast as your podcast’s title is not just a selling point for your show, but for your business as well. Take advantage of the title and use it to promote yourself through the various podcast platforms and on social media. Consider including your brand name in the title or keywords that directly relate to your industry. This keeps your business at the front of your audience’s mind as they see it appear on their podcast and social media feeds.

Language

Speaking of keywords, the language you use is very important. Use positive descriptors that you want your audience to associate with your company. Including words like “leaders”, “experts”, “creative” etc. can help influence your audience to think a certain way about you and your podcast, while encouraging them to listen to the show.

It might be a good idea to choose a name that explicitly outlines your business and industry. If you are creating a podcast for a marketing agency, then including “marketing” in your title clearly tells your audience what it is that you do, and gives them a good idea as to what you will be talking about.

Be careful not to choose a title that is too long. Keep the name short and avoid words like “the” and “podcast”. This helps your podcast stand out from a whole host of other titles with these words. The most important thing to remember is to choose a name that is memorable and easy to share.

“Your podcast should be easy to share so if potential clients or collaborators go looking for you, they know how to find you quickly and easily.”

Keep it Memorable and Shareable

Creating a memorable show will allow you to reach consumers and other businesses as it enables you to establish yourself as a leader within the industry. For this reason, you may want to choose a name that people can easily associate with your company’s expertise. It’s all well and good producing a detailed and insightful podcast to promote yourself if your audience has no way of linking it back to your brand.

Keep your name original and distinctive. Before you settle on a title, check if there is another podcast with the same name or in the same area of business. Your podcast should be easy to share so if potential clients or collaborators go looking for you, they know how to find you quickly and easily. Don’t forget to link the podcast on your website and social media.

Relevancy

Make sure you choose a name that is relevant to the podcast’s content and to your business. You will want to pick something that highlights the content of the show. For example, a podcast for a finance business could talk about any number of things so you might want to use your podcast title as a way of summarizing the content or highlighting your target audience. For example, Millenial Money Minutes targets millennials and students by explaining personal finance in a matter of minutes. Therefore, it’s not targeting other businesses. Meanwhile, Masters of Scale talks to industry leaders and professionals and would typically be aimed at people involved in the industry, or who are interested in the growth of various companies. If your show involves conversations between other companies, then aim for a name that highlights that. If you are creating a podcast series around an event or a project, then including the project name or event within the title separates it from similar content, and makes it specific to what you are working on.

There is a lot to think about when settling on a podcast name, but remember that no matter what you choose, keep it simple, relevant and ensure that it makes sense for you, your business and your brand.
